Terms of Service

Last updated: August 20, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Acodear for the use of Comy. They cover what you can expect from us, what we expect from you, and what happens if something goes wrong. Comy is free, and we have tried to keep this document short and readable rather than exhaustive.

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) apply to the Comy mobile app (Android package com.acodear.comy), its web build, and the Comy backend API that serves them (together, “Comy” or “the Service”). Comy is operated by Acodear (“we”, “us”).

By creating an account or using Comy, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. If you are using Comy on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for it.

2. Who can use Comy

Comy is intended for people aged 13 and older. In parts of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom the minimum age for consenting to online services is higher — up to 16, depending on the country. Where that applies, you must be at least that age, or have your parent or guardian’s consent, to use Comy.

You may not use Comy if we have previously terminated your account, or if doing so would break the law that applies to you.

3. Your account

You need an account to use Comy. You can create one with an email address and password, or by signing in with Google.

Accounts are personal. One person, one account — multiple accounts used to reset hearts, inflate streaks, or otherwise work around the learning limits fall under section 5.

4. What Comy is — and is not

Comy is a learning app. It teaches judgment around everyday use of AI tools: asking clearly, improving outputs, checking risky answers, protecting data, and knowing when to rely on your own judgment instead. You progress through short lessons and practice drills.

Comy is educational content, not professional advice. Nothing in Comy is legal, financial, medical, security, or other professional advice, and it is not a certification or a qualification. AI tools change quickly; guidance that is sound today may not hold tomorrow. Use your own judgment, and consult a qualified professional for decisions that matter.

We may add, change, or retire lessons, tracks, and features. We are not obliged to keep any particular piece of content available.

5. Acceptable use

Use Comy for learning. Do not:

Security research is welcome, but tell us first at legal@acodear.com and give us a reasonable chance to fix what you find before disclosing it.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of what you provide: your display name, your avatar, and the answers you give in drills. Comy has no public profiles, no feed, and no way for other users to see your content — it exists to run your own account.

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, and display your content solely to operate the Service for you: to save your progress, grade your drill answers, show your profile back to you, and keep backups. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from backups still on their rotation (see section 13).

You are responsible for what you submit, and you confirm you have the right to submit it. Do not put confidential or sensitive personal information into drill answers — they are free-text fields on a learning app, not a secure vault.

7. Our content and intellectual property

Comy’s lessons, drills, explanations, curriculum, software, design, and the Comy and Acodear names and logos belong to us or our licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Comy for your own learning. That licence does not let you use Comy’s content commercially, teach from it, build a competing or derivative product from it, or use it to train a machine-learning model. All rights we do not expressly grant are reserved.

If you think something in Comy infringes your rights, write to legal@acodear.com with enough detail to identify the material and your claim, and we will look into it.

8. XP, hearts, and streaks

Comy uses game-like mechanics to pace learning: you earn XP for correct answers, spend hearts on wrong ones (they refill over time), and build a streak by meeting a daily XP goal.

These are features, not property. XP, hearts, streaks, and any league standing have no monetary value, are not currency, and cannot be bought, sold, transferred, exchanged, or redeemed for anything of value inside or outside Comy. You have no ownership interest in them.

We may change how the mechanics work — XP rates, the number of hearts, refill times, goal tiers — as we tune the learning loop, and we may correct balances affected by a bug or by activity that breaks section 5. Progress that is lost, reset, or adjusted is not compensable, and deleting your account erases all of it permanently.

9. Privacy

What we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have are set out in the Comy Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In short: we collect what is needed to run your learning account, we do not run ads, and we do not sell your data.

10. Price and changes

Comy is currently free to use. There are no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no ads.

We may introduce paid features in future. If we do, we will say so clearly in advance, the price and terms will be presented before you are ever charged, and anything you already have access to for free stays free for the account you are using at that time or we will tell you otherwise with reasonable notice.

11. Availability and support

Comy is a small product run by a small team. We aim to keep it up and working, but we do not promise any particular uptime, response time, or level of support. The Service may be unavailable for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of Comy at any time. If we discontinue the Service altogether, we will make a reasonable effort to give you notice beforehand so you can export or record anything you care about.

12. Third-party services

Comy depends on services we do not control, and your use of them is governed by their own terms:

Service When it applies
Google Sign-In If you choose to sign in with Google. Google’s terms and privacy policy govern your Google account itself.
Google Play If you installed Comy from the Play Store. Google Play’s terms also apply to that distribution, and Google is not a party to these Terms.
Amazon Web Services Hosting for the Comy backend. You do not interact with it directly.

Links in Comy that lead somewhere else are not endorsements, and we are not responsible for third-party sites or services.

13. Ending your account

You can leave at any time. Delete your account from the app under Profile, or follow the instructions on the account deletion page. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your progress, XP, and streaks are erased and cannot be restored.

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these Terms, that we are legally required to act on, or that poses a risk to other users or to the Service. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first. For serious or repeated breaches we may act immediately.

Sections that by their nature should outlive the account — 7, 14, 15, 17, and any accrued rights — survive termination.

14. Disclaimers

Comy is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that its content is accurate, complete, or current.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties. Where that is the case, these exclusions apply only as far as the law permits, and your mandatory statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost data, or lost progress, arising out of or relating to your use of Comy.

Because Comy is free, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim (which will normally be zero) or USD 50.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer in the EEA, the UK, or a jurisdiction with equivalent protections, this section applies only to the extent your local law permits, and your mandatory rights are unaffected.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms as Comy changes. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give you reasonable notice — by email or in the app — before it takes effect.

Continuing to use Comy after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, delete your account (see section 13).

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Acodear is established, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and without limiting any mandatory rights or protections you have under the law of your country of residence. If you are a consumer, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of your own country where local law gives you that right.

Before starting formal proceedings, please write to us at legal@acodear.com — most problems are faster to fix directly.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about Comy. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms; we may transfer ours to a successor as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
